2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Is Canadian Car Of The Year
February 20 2025, Centennial Honda

The 200-horsepower 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid has been voted the 2025 Canadian Car of the Year by AJAC, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.
And not for the first time. The Civic was also named AJAC's Canadian Car of the Year in 2022, 2016, and 2006.
AJAC has been handing out Canadian Car of the Year awards for 40 years. In 2025, 47 Canadian jurors voted on the best vehicles on sale in Canada. While AJAC jurors voted with ballots, Canadians vote with their wallets – the Civic was Canada's best-selling car in 2024, the 25th year the Civic has topped the leaderboard since 1998.
The Civic Hybrid doesn't just bring extra power to the table, of course. Official fuel economy ratings from Natural Resources Canada place the Civic Hybrid at 4.7 L/100km in the city, 5.1 L/100km on the highway, and 4.9 L/100km combined. (What do these numbers mean?)
In 2025, hybrids are by no means niche one-offs in any automaker's lineup, and certainly not Honda's. Two of the three 2025 Accord trim levels are hybrids and two of the four CR-V trim levels are hybrids.
The Civic sedan, meanwhile, is sold as a non-hybrid in LX and Sport trim levels and as a Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. As a hatchback, the Civic can be had as a Sport, Sport Hybrid, or Sport Touring Hybrid.
The AJAC Car of the Year award is only the most recent major nod given to the Civic. AutoTrader named the Civic Hybrid the Best Overall Car for 2025. Car And Driver's 10 Best Cars list for 2025 also includes the Civic. The North American Car of the Year for 2025 also just so happens to be the Honda Civic.
