2022 Honda Civic Image Gallery, Details, Release Date
November 18 2020, Centennial Honda
This is the all-new, 11th-generation, 2022 Honda Civic.
Well, perhaps we should clarify. This is the Honda Civic Prototype, a thinly veiled concept version of the next Civic that Honda displayed for the first time on Twitch on November 17, 2020. Virtually nothing will change, especially as we predict that this very car is almost exactly what the next Civic Si will look like.
You can spot those unique aspects: Solar Flare Pearl paint, big front air intake, black mirror caps, dual exhaust, 19-inch alloys, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport 235/35ZR19 tires. Subtract those likely Si elements and what you're seeing here is the next Civic.
It's a hugely consequential unveiling. The Canadian-built Civic has been Canada's most popular car for 22 consecutive years; 2020 is certain to be the 23rd consecutive year. Over 300,000 10th-generation Civics were sold in Canada since late-2015 and over 2.2 million Civics have been sold in Canada since the first Civic arrived in Canada in 1973.
It's quite possible that some of the most significant changes will be the ones that garner no headlines. After all, the 2022 Civic will be more comfortable, more refined, and safer, with a stiffer chassis developed so engineers can craft even better ride quality and handling.
But the details matter.
- • The A-pillar is one inch lower and two inches further back, so you get a better view of the road, a sportier profile.
- • Visibility was a major priority. Key inspiration came from the third-generation Civic that had a vast greenhouse (glass area). Within the confines of modern safety standards, Honda aimed to keep the beltline low and the glass area large. Also notice the side mirrors mounted on the doors, which clears up space for better sightlines, as well.
- • The rear track (distance between the two rear wheels) is widened by half an inch – this won't just enhance the visual appeal of a wide rear end, it will enhance handling confidence.
- • The Si and Type R will still be manual-transmission cars, Honda has confirmed.
- • The touchscreen in the current Civic maxes out at 7 inches; the 2022 Civic will feature a 9-inch screen. And the infortainment unit features the exceptional from the latest Accord and Odyssey plus wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility.
- • The wheelbase and overall length of the new Civic are both stretched by about an inch. In fact, this won't add rear legroom (the Civic is already the class leader in terms of rear seat space), but it will allow Honda to change the angle of the rear seat for greater comfort.
There will be plenty of extra details leaking out from Honda HQ over the next few months in terms of powertrain and specifications. Honda has already confirmed that there will be an Si and a Type R. The 11th-generation 2022 Civic will be released in dealers in the spring of 2021, first as a sedan and then as a hatchback.
