Kia Is Number 1 In J.D. Power Initial Quality Study For A Sixth Consecutive Year

For a sixth consecutive year, Kia ranks No.1 among mass-market brands in J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study.

At Kia, it's a streak that began in 2015. It's not just an overall brand success story, either, as the Kia Forte, Kia Sedona, Kia Soul, and Kia Sorento are all tops in their respective vehicle categories, as well. Those vehicles account for nearly two-thirds of the Kias sold in Canada.

J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study, which has been in operation for 34 years, surveys tens of thousands of customers and then produces results based on the number of problems encountered per 100 vehicles. "The Initial Quality Study is the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality," says Dave Dargent, the vice president of automotive quality at J.D. Power.

Kia's long-term success goes hand in hand with an abundance of other awards Kia has earned lately. Here are just a few examples.

• The Kia Telluride was named World Car Of The Year for 2020.

• The Kia Sedona is the most reliable minivan on the market.

• Kia has six IIHS Top Safety Picks: Forte, Soul, Stinger, Sportage, Sorento, and Telluride
