Nissan Sold More Than 2 Million Suvs & Crossovers in 2017

Huge increases in the demand for Nissan's utility vehicles in every corner of the world fuelled the company's overall growth in 2017.

Over the 12 months of 2017, Nissan and Infiniti combined for more than 2 million SUV/crossover sales, a 12-percent improvement from 2016 levels. Much of that increase came from the Rogue and its partner crossovers, the X-Trail (essentially a Rogue by another name) and smaller Qashqai. These three nameplates accounted for more than half of all Nissan utility vehicle sales.

But there were major improvements in other corners of the range, as well, including a 79-percent increase in sales of the full-size Nissan Armada, the flagship SUV in Nissan showrooms, plus the first 109,000 copies of the Nissan Kicks, which is set to arrive in Prince Edward Island at Centennial Nissan of Charlottetown and Centennial Nissan of Summerside in the coming months.

The global impact of Nissan's hugely popular utility vehicles is brought home here in Canada. In 2017, Nissan Canada reported 80,351 SUV/crossover sales, along with another 8,836 utility vehicle sales at the Infiniti division.

Infiniti's five-pronged SUV/crossover lineup was up 3 percent compared with 2016, while sales of the Armada jumped 54 percent, the Murano rose 9 percent to 15,120 sales, the Pathfinder grew 2 percent, the new Qashqai added 8,970 sales, and the Rogue rose 8 percent to end the year as Nissan's overall top seller.
