Your Pre-Owned Mazda May Be Eligible for an Apple Carplay/Android Auto Upgrade
November 18 2019, Centennial Auto Group

It's one thing to include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration to newly redesigned and refreshed models, as Mazda is doing with the 2019 CX-9 and some other upcoming '19 models. But now Mazda has taken the leapfrogging step of offering owners of many pre-owned Mazdas an Apple CarPlay/Android Auto upgrade.
To make your Mazda Connect and HMI Commander operate with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, a short press of the Home button - which sits just ahead of the intuitive Commander knob - can take you to the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay screen, and a long press will revert to the original interface.
Both systems operate with your phone plugged in, so the process of upgrading your Mazda's infotainment unit to accommodate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto requires a USB port replacement. The entire process, when it becomes available, will take roughly 90 minutes at Centennial Mazda and will be priced around $445.
Double-check availability when you book your appointment, but according to Auto123, the list of vehicles that could include upgradeability are below.
- 2014-2018 Mazda 3
- 2016-2018 Mazda 6
